STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

6 Steps

Add an Adjustment Clip

Go to the Edit page. Open Effects → Drag an Adjustment Clip above your main footage. Using an adjustment clip allows you to apply the Vortex Blur Effect to multiple clips easily. Right-click the adjustment clip → Open in Fusion Page.

Add the Vortex Plugin

Inside Fusion: Press Shift + Space Search for Vortex Add it to the node tree. Adjust: Size Power Tune these values depending on how strong you want the blur distortion.

Mask the Subject

To keep the subject sharp: Add an Ellipse Mask. Invert the mask. Increase Soft Edge for smooth blending. This ensures the Vortex Blur Effect stays around the edges and does not distort the subject.

Add Radial Blur for Depth

Press Shift + Space again. Search for Radial Blur. Add it after the mask. Adjust the blur amount slightly to enhance the depth effect. This gives the blur a more cinematic and high-end look.

Animate the Mask with Perturb

To create dynamic movement: Select the mask. Add a Perturb modifier. Adjust settings to create subtle mask movement. This adds motion and prevents the blur from feeling static.

Apply the Effect to Other Clips

Return to the Edit page. Hold Alt and drag the adjustment clip to duplicate it. Place it over other clips. You can now apply the Vortex Blur Effect in DaVinci Resolve across multiple shots instantly.
